What is Bamboo Fibers?

Bamboo fibres are cellulosic fibres produced from Bamboo Plants a type of grass. Bamboo fabric is a natural textile that has been growing in popularity in recent years, both for its quality and its environmental friendliness.

Bamboo fibres have qualities that make them ideal for regulating heat ensuring that the foot is kept cool in summer and warm in winter. This is helpful for diabetic patients as they can find it difficult to manage extreme temperature changes due to circulatory problems.

Bamboo socks are grown naturally and don't contain any of the artificial chemicals presents in most modern clothes. In addition to making them a gentler fabric, they are extremely soft. This ensures that the foot is kept dry and the skin is not irritated - essential for diabetic patients who often have sensitive skin. They can also reduce the risk of any fungus or bacterial type infections which can be a dangerous complication.

Bamboo has antibacterial properties due an antimicrobial bio-agent called "bamboo kun", which is found naturally in the fibre. This agent repels pest, insects and other irritants and is what allows bamboo to be grown naturally, without pesticides. As bamboo socks have inherited these properties they can fight germs, fungus and other negative side effects and help combat athlete's foot and other recurring conditions.

Bamboo also provides excellent UV protection which can ward off sunburn, a prevalent danger for the diabetic patient and one which is harder to guard against in warmer climates. It has excellent sweat absorbing properties and its breathable texture makes it ideal for traveling and wear in almost any situation.

Bamboo has a naturally porous texture and is a wonderful deodorizer - it doesn't harbour unpleasant odours, which is often the case with lower quality products. The looser design of the socks can also help with people suffering from secondary issues with their feet, such as swollen ankles, tightness or general poor circulation. The composition of the sock encourages circulation and treats sensitive areas of the foot with care.

One of the more unique properties of bamboo socks is that they are non-allergenic. Any diabetic patients suffering from skin allergies, dermatitis and other skin irritations will not experience these and will find the health benefits of bamboo a revelation after a lifetime of artificial and often low quality foot wear.
